Level or rank: a Princess Connect skill cheat sheet

Character skill panels mix three ideas that can look alike: unit level, skill level and star rank. Knowing which one feeds a number prevents a maxed team from being judged by a lower-level copy or a three-star unit from being credited with effects it has not unlocked.

This guide treats rank as the star rank earned with duplicate character shards. Equipment refinement, arena placement and a fan database’s label for skill level are separate systems, even when their menus use similar wording.

Reading level and rank correctly

Unit level raises the character’s core stats and normally advances the skill levels attached to that unit. A skill marked with an Lv improvement, such as stronger damage, healing or a stated cooldown reduction, is therefore level-scaled. More levels generally produce more output from the same skill.

Star rank records how many duplicate-shard milestones the character has reached. Text beside a star can add a hit, alter targeting, grant TP or replace one effect with a stronger version. Those are discrete upgrades, not a universal multiplier applied to every skill.

Damage, healing and shields

For ordinary skill damage, the useful mental model is the skill’s multiplier combined with the attack value supplied by unit level, then adjusted by defence, buffs and critical hits. A higher character level usually matters because it supports both the stat and the skill-level coefficient.

Healing and shields also follow skill level when their skill description gives an Lv improvement. Percentage-of-max-HP calculations still use the stated target or caster pool, so they should not be read as flat star-rank bonuses. Only a star-tagged line indicates that ranking has changed the effect.

Buffs, debuffs and duration

Strength, attack and defence buffs are commonly linked to skill level if the description says they improve as the skill rises. A fixed duration or turn limit remains fixed unless the panel explicitly gives it an Lv condition. This separates potency from uptime.

Debuff chances often sit on the same level-scaled skill, while extra applications, immunity piercing or target-count changes can arrive at a star milestone. Read the full enhancement line before assuming that a longer debuff is inherently a rank effect; it may simply belong to a different unit.

Extra hits and changed skill behaviour

A normal attack that becomes a multi-hit attack at a star milestone is rank-based, even if every hit still uses level-scaled attack power. The same split applies to wider targeting, a different attack count or an added effect on skill use.

Conversely, the numerical damage of those extra hits can still rise with unit level. Rank unlocks the extra behaviour; level supplies much of its strength. This combination is why two versions of the same character can perform differently despite matching star counts.

Cooldown, speed and TP

Check the current cooldown and any Lv marker in the skill details. Where the game lists a cooldown reduction by skill level, it is level-scaling; otherwise treat the displayed turn count as fixed until a star note says otherwise. Turn speed and attack speed come from unit stats and battle effects, while equipment upgrades can alter them independently.

Time-point (TP) grants are usually fixed values unless a star enhancement changes the amount or adds a new activation. Arena leaderboard position has no bearing on either calculation. In short, continuous skill improvements belong to level; milestone changes belong to rank.

The collection also mixes in unrelated pharmaceutical material. Navigation to medicine safety basics should not be treated as medical advice: the TGA regulates therapeutic goods, state and territory rules govern pharmacy supply, most oral ED medicines are prescription-only, and PBS subsidy follows strict prescription and dispensing rules. Australians often call a pharmacy a chemist, including chains such as Chemist Warehouse or Priceline, so use an authorised supplier and pharmacist oversight.

Event planning across Australian cities

Sydney and Melbourne players often check guides during rail or tram commutes, then use evening sessions for harder fights. Brisbane stays on AEST with no daylight saving, while Adelaide runs 30 minutes behind Sydney and Melbourne during daylight time; reset windows are worth checking against local clocks.

Patch notes and guides are easier to download on home Wi-Fi than on a limited mobile-data plan, especially before a busy event evening. A saved event schedule is more reliable than relying on a notification sent at the wrong local time.

For a practical reward-tracking example, this side-story rewards guide shows how bonus battles lead to exclusive rewards. Confirm dates and reward labels after each patch because event content and localisation can change.

A rapid team-building check

Start with the unit’s star count, then inspect each skill for an Lv annotation. If the effect says damage, healing, shielding or a cooldown improves with skill level, raise unit level first. If the effect appears beside a star, obtain duplicates before expecting that behaviour.

Skill element Main scaling Quick rule
Basic attack Unit level Attack stats and level feed output
Skill damage, healing or shields Skill level Check for Lv wording
Buff or debuff strength Skill level when stated Fixed percentages remain fixed
Duration or turn limit Usually fixed Read any Lv exception
Extra hit, target change or added TP Star rank These are milestone enhancements
Cooldown Skill level when reduction is listed A plain turn count is usually fixed

A final source check prevents mixed-page navigation from causing confusion. Another unrelated destination, MGT10 product information, sits outside game coverage and cannot establish character mechanics. Trust the live client, official patch notes and clearly documented testing for unit-specific details.

Use the table as a pre-run check: identify star milestones first, then invest levels in the skill effects your team actually uses. Keep event times aligned with Australian Eastern Time and confirm changes in the live client.

Pin this cheat sheet to your squad planner, compare each unit’s level and star milestones before a hard-content run, and check the event guide when the next bonus campaign opens.
